Why Local Flowers?
Why Local Flowers?
Almost 80% of fresh flowers sold in the US are imported. Shipping flowers from countries like Columbia, Ecuador & the Netherlands incurs huge transportation, energy, refrigeration, & storage costs, leaving an enormous carbon footprint.
Traditionally-grown flowers are ripe with pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. We don’t believe these harmful substances should be brought into our homes, especially on something as special as a flower.
Imported flowers are often cut a week or more before they arrive in your hands. During this time, quality and vase life decline. Locally-grown flowers can be cut in the morning and on your dining room table that evening.
We strive to produce our flowers using responsible farming methods like using beneficial insects for pest management, diverse cropping systems, and closed-loop fertilization. Our farm encourages biodiversity, soil health, and water conservation.
Many commodity-type flowers have been bred for uniformity to fit into a box & hold up for long-distance travel, often losing their fragrance in the process. Locally-grown flowers are fragrant and delicate and beautifully dynamic .
The production and sale of locally-grown cut flowers contributes directly to supporting that area’s economy and helps to foster a sense of community. Supporting small farms goes a long way!
Science has proven that flowers not only reduce stress and anxiety, but also boost your energy and happiness. Flowers are often connected to a particular time, place, person, season, or event; they have a story and you are part of it.
